View Full Version : Is Houdini used for video game effects?
allergyseason 11-30-2012, 08:16 PM In particular, I'm wondering if Houdini can be used to create things like smoke, fire, and sparks for use inside a game engine. I've been told Maya is not good for this and to go with UDK. Houdini, however, seems to be gaining a lot of steam in the VFX industry, I'm just not sure if its use is strictly limited to movie effects.
Thank you

Yes. Houdini was used for some of the effects in Uncharted 3.

I'm currently employed by Guerrilla games and we use Houdini for a lot of custom fx and protoyping solutions that might end up in our engine. It's not bound to effects at all...
