View Full Version : preview animation..problem with saving
carnera 12-08-2003, 01:53 PM hi
i have some problems saving my animation previews in messiah:animate 4.d . everytime i want to save my preview as an avi it says "could not write output file" seems that no codec (neither divx nor indeo 5.11) is accepted. while saving an uncompressed avi is working.
any ideas..or help is highly appreciated

There were some threads about this - or it least what it seems to be. Certain codecs require a set pixel format, which is difficult to achieve when scrubbing the window size. Easiest is to save uncompressed and run it through your comp software.
Not what you want to hear, I know. I think its already on the list of issues for future revs.

Try Cinepak...I've never had problems with that codec.

You have to play with window view sides.
Divx/Indeo codec like a viewsize of that is divisible by 4. ex: 640 x 480
253 x 611 or 437 x 509 it won't do.
Corse trying to find this is hard as hell.

thanks for all the replies....
julez....yep your right...dam*
If u have Camtasia (full prog not only the codec) u can use it at will, since Camtasia doesn´t have limitations on the avi viewsize:thumbsup:

Does anyone have any ideas how to save a fully-rendered animation not just a preview?
U might try to in Render Tab---Output---Choose Animation instead of Current Frame :p But it will only save frames sequences not to .avi

You know, I've done that Sil3. But when I hit the "Render Now" button - it says "You didn't turn on any file saving options for rendering this animation. Do you wan't to continue rendering?" I've played with various options - limiting the sequence to a few frames, etc...
In the Buffers block I have the Color name set and a directory for the sequence to be saved to. I just can't find any type of button to turn on the file saving option - I suspect it would be something similar to "Save AVI" under the Play tab.

Hummmm???? :surprised
Output Tab, below the buffers window there are fields to input:
-Name (name of the file, ex: my_cute_animation)
-Digits (NONE or 00, 000, etc) and Type (of file, targa, bmp etc)
Choose 00 at least, if NONE is choosen only 1 image will be rendered.
Below that theres a field showing u the path to where the files will be saved, click on the folder icon next to it to choose your folder.
U give the path in that field, not on the Buffer options. My path by default says:
C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Desktop
When u pick a new Directory/Folder the written path will update, then choose Animation on the button below and hit render.

That's probably it ... choosing "00" ... I'll try it out when I get home from work this evening. Thanks, Sil3.:)

I've done everything that was suggested and I'm still getting a warning message. If I click "Yes" it will render the sequence but will not save it to the designated folder. In the example below, I have only a 2-image sequence to render - I didn't want to sit around all day.
Well, I'm at a complete loss

You've got Color turned off, according to your screen grab. Turn it on.
