Hi Everyone,

We have released GrowFX 1.9.0. Now users have a unique opportunity to apply direction modifiers after the calculation of meshes, thereby allowing you to quickly calculate the animation plants.

What's new:

[+] Added the After Mesh Modifiers feature. This will enable you to apply direction modifiers after the calculation of all meshes. For example, the wind animation will now be calculated very quickly and, in some cases, in real time;
[+] Added ability to copy components (Distributors, Direction Modifiers, Mesh Builders and After Mesh Modifiers) as instances;
[+] Added a new parameter Seed offset for all direction modifiers;
[+] Added a new option Disable all Meta meshes in the Preference parameters rollout. This will allow you to configure your trees much easier with Meta mesh builders, in which all Meta meshes will be presented as cylindrical mesh. Don't forget to turn it off when you are finished configuring the tree;
[+] New feature for the Meta mesh: Stop stitching by Radius. This makes it easier to optimize the calculation of the Meta mesh;
[+] Added a new parameter Angle axis for the Leaves mesh;
[+] Now it's possible to change the order of color components in the Vertex Color;
[+] Added ability to apply one of several presets for any Graph parameters;
[+] Improved algorithm for the Hard bend modifier;
[+] Display the pathname of the *.gfx file on UI;
[+] Some minor bugs are fixed.

In addition, we have rewritten the GrowFX user manual (http://exlevel.com/download/files/Help/GrowFXHelp_eng.zip). Hope it is clearer now...

Please feel free to ask if you have any questions.

Best regards,
Eduard,

Is it possible to do low-poly trees for games with the software around 5000 triangles max?

Basically a reduced trunk with lets say 8-14 sides and instead small leaves larger planes where I can apply a texture?

Yes, it is possible. You can create any plants with any number of triangles.
Also you can use GrowFX to make modular high-poly geometry to use as textures (leaf clusters, branch clusters, etc.) and then use it again to arrange them in a natural way as textures on planes.

Any plans for a Maya OSX/WIN/Linux version?

Regarding porting the GrowFX into other applications, it will be possible only after the release version 2.0. Because now the plugin strongly integrated into 3ds Max, and it's impossible... In GrowFX 2.0 we'll plan to change the internal structure that will make it easy to port to other applications.

Speedtree is unable to convert to editable mesh. Can this do it? Also the ability to save out a quick loop of animation so it can be exported to games or other apps like Unity? (We stopped using speedtree because of this, and went to xfrog and vray proxys)

Also, I use a lot of Maya these days, and the Alembic format comes up... and also Fbx export with anim. (looping of course)
Looks great.

Yes, you can convert the GrowFX-model into editable mesh. But this is possible only in the full version, there is need to turn on the Convert to mesh/spline in the Preference parameters rollout, then convert as usual.
