Hopefully this post is okay for this forum (=.
I haven’t been directly active in the game industry for the past 4 years and I’m starting to get that itch to work on a small game development project to get warmed up and up to speed on some new technologies and trends. Ideally I’d like to work with a small team to produce a product (freeware or shareware).
Although it is possible to do it alone (with a lot of work), I would like to work with others because I find that working with motivated and creative people helps move the project along and although it sounds cheesy, I enjoy team building.
I’m looking to form a team of 3-4 people for a 6-12 week project. Preferably I’d like to find people who can contribute to other aspects that other members are not well versed in. For instance, art and sound members are highly welcomed! Design aspects of the game would be an equal collaboration. I have ideas about what I would like to develop, but the team as a whole would decide what to build. Additionally the project should be a game that can be developed in the timeframe proposed.
A little information about myself… By day I am a software engineer for a sports organization. My particular area of expertise is developing enterprise and commerce solutions for large-scale applications. Outside of the day job I like to tinker on my game development framework (C++), work on developing my artistic skills (Photoshop, Illustrator, 3DS Max), DJ, and run an online business. Before leaving the game industry I had worked for a few smaller companies working on real-time 3D solutions. (Portfolio available on request)
Skills I can contribute are programming (networking, graphics, general game/logic programming), basic 3D and 2D game art, and project management.
Here are some things I would like to feel I’ve come away with from working on a project: share and learn from those I’ve worked with, made some new friends and contacts, engage in a fun project, and created an enjoyable and entertaining experience.
Games I’m currently playing:
Natural-Selection
Final Fantasy Tactics Advance
Disgaea
Texas Hold’em (Poker)
PS. I reside in Brooklyn, NY.
