also i noticed if you stick with IFF textures it helps big time. since maya needs to convert all textures to IFF anyhow

How have you been writing out iff files? I have a photoshop plugin for reading/writing iff, but the writing iff part always screws up. It always has errors when writing to iff.

...if you´re rendering with MR...you could convert the textures to BOT files..just found a great mel-script for easy conversion:
memory_mapped_textures_scripts.mel (http://www.noboundrees.com/yinako/mel/memory_mapped_textures_scripts.mel)
See header of script for details how to use...:bounce:

yeah it sucks :(
hmmm I wonder which is faster, using a BOT (for maya or mr) or using an IFF texture...

well i know they hae to convert the files to IFF no matter what. so i think that is the answer. man i cannot beleive they have not figured out a better plugin for that in P.S

well do you have any big textures in both regular, bot and IFF formats? Maybe you could give it an experimental run. I can't get a single iff to write... Otherwise I'd try it.
Definitely bots render faster (for big textures) than regular. but the file size increase of a bot is tremendous..(i'll have to buy another hard drive sooner ). so its definitely a trade off. Also the bots are uneditable

wow im a couple years late in posting, but, the photoshop iff plugin works perfectly. You have to make sure you make an alpha for the image in the alpha channel. It always has to have an alpha or it wont save right.
