View Full Version : CGChallenge XXVII - TEN - (video) - sampad01 - TEN PAISA

Hi,
I am entering as solo video category and I am willing to make a short film.
You can see my entry post here :
http://challenge.cgsociety.org/ten/entry/sampad01/work_in_progress/10001651

This short film is titled "Ten Paisa". The word Paisa refers to a specific currency just like cent. The story is not based on any real location nor any real time in history or modern days. But actually, paisa is the smallest currency used in Bangladesh and a long time ago, 10 paisa was worth a lot :). But that is not the point.

To put it simple, we sometimes find it hard in ourselves to pay a guy who just did a lot of hard work for us. We bargain. We try to pay as low as possible. On the other hand, we are easily fooled by some cunning people who take advantage of our emotions and then we just donate money to them without having them work for it at all. We don't even doubt that this person might be a fraud..

I have just finished the storyboard and I am going to upload all the pages of that storyboard next. Kind regards and best of luck to all. I hope I do a good job.
Thanks.

I just redid the storyboard again based on your comments. I didn't create a new post for it because I didn't want the thread to be cluttered.
Here are the pages again...

http://imageshack.us/a/img42/1130/tenv2page001.jpghttp://imageshack.us/a/img203/7209/tenv2page002.jpghttp://imageshack.us/a/img411/7146/tenv2page003.jpghttp://imageshack.us/a/img12/7277/tenv2page004.jpghttp://imageshack.us/a/img708/2033/tenv2page005.jpghttp://imageshack.us/a/img72/8426/tenv2page006.jpghttp://imageshack.us/a/img694/7273/tenv2page007.jpg

I really don't want the worker to have a happy ending. This is what happens to poor people. Even though they know there are risks of getting bullied again, they have no option but to go for it and test their luck. Who knows, what happens next... may be he will have a good person as an employer this time who will pay him a bonus? Or he might just get bullied again.. no one knows.

Nice idea! I like the story but what happened to the first character who was carrying the sacks? You give the impression that the worker is the main character by showing him first and then making the audience sympathize with him but then the film just moves on. Could you incorporate the worker into some kind of payoff at the end? If not, I would think about reworking the emphasis so that we don't expect the story to be all about the worker.

Just my two cents - looking forward to more!

Hi, thanks a lot for your kind input. Yes you are definitely right about that. I am also thinking about editing the storyboard a bit.
But then again, another part of my brain says the worker is not the main character in this story. The main character is actually the fat rich guy. He might be a negative character, a villain.. but to be honest, he actually symbolizes a part of us. We sometimes do things like he did.
Also, the 10 paisa coin is in all the events of the story which it is supposed to do.
But as I said, I am still thinking and may be I will change it a bit. Lets go through the character concept designs and 3d modeling phase and we can keep thinking as we go.
Stay with me. :)

These are the concept arts before 3d modeling phase..
But before 3d modeling, I think I will update the finishing of the storyboard. I am thinking about showing what happened to the worker at the end as prescribed by the comment of KMcNamara (http://forums.cgsociety.org/member.php?u=505858). Thanks a lot.

Cool concepts. Anyway the idea you want to do looks to be very hard to make!!!
And you want to do it as SOLO movie!!! how can i say!? DARING! and...I will be back to see more because your video looks to be very interesting to follow.
so keep it up! and...all the best'

Hey, great character concepts. I really love how you've given each of them the emotional disposition that we would expect based on their back story.

It's certainly a valid option to make the story about the rich man - the villains are usually the most interesting characters. If you decide to go this route (which could be great), I would say two things:

1. Either tie up loose ends with the worker or focus less on him.
2. Villains usually have some kind of flaw that makes them act the way they do - give the villain some kind of "ah ha" moment where he realizes his flaws and maybe changes his ways.

Just some thoughts. Keep up the good work.

You are right about everything... I kept thinking as I drew the concepts.. The finishing of the story looks really sudden and done in a hurry. I will definitely update the storyboard now.
Thank you for your wonderful feedback. Please keep helping me like this.

Pretty good one! I hope you can make it on time!
One small advice, donŽt spend too much time on anatomy parts youŽre not gonna see in the short movie (like the legs where they join the crotch). You can use one generic geometry to make the clothes. I think that could help you get it to work faster, even though youŽre going at a pretty good pace anyway. IŽd try not to make the character so detailed, cause it will set the rule for the whole little world you have there, and youŽll get lost at detailing everything, which could look nice, but wonŽt help you get it in the given deadline!

Good look with this one dude!

The worker model is looking really good! I was wondering if you would have enough time to create all of the assets, but I really think at this pace you are working you could really pull it off. Good luck! I'm excited to see more :bounce:

Thank you so much for the advice. I am definitely going to keep that in mind. I am not going to waste anymore time on the anatomy and move on to the next characters.
Btw, I am going to use one character as a base for all the characters. I think that will save me a lot of time.

I wish everyone around the world have a wonderful time.
Unfortunately, there are so much responsibilities on my shoulder for Eid and will have to
work with the family because of that.

But I will return as sooner as possible. Kind regards to all.

I'm always a fan of your works. In here you also rocks with your detail and hard work which I love to watch. The storyboard is a great piece and I saw the work in progress. I found very detail in the modeling. I wish you will finish the work in time. All the best.

11-03-2012, 05:42 AM
Thanks a lot @Kris-Rusinek (http://forums.cgsociety.org/member.php?u=43100). Actually, I am also thinking that my story doesn't have to be so long. My storyboard is actually showing 3 or 4 different events. The message of the story can be told in only 1 event. That is how I will make it short enough to fit in time. I hope my plans work...

sampad01
11-03-2012, 08:54 AM
This morning I just finished rigging the legs. I am making this rig in such a way that each limb will be scalable separately. That means you can resize each arms and legs and also scale the whole rig uniformly. This way, I will be able to use this rig for any biped character of any height and size.
It will be a very very simple rig. No fancy scripting, ( I don't know any scripting at all ) and no stretchy limbs either. If belly jiggle is necessary for fat characters, I will add them later manually using spring constraints or some extra bones and controls.

WOW! Thanks Staszek! I believe you are going to win this one too! Best of luck!
I wish I could still work on mine. I got too many jobs to do because its holiday season.
And I am not nearly as good as you. I saw what you did with the last Bee movie challenge and I was asking around my friends,... is this Staszek guy human? That was a huge amount of work for one guy and in so little time! You are an inspiration. :)
