View Full Version : front-view: I wanna see the other side
Garma 12-05-2003, 02:25 PM 'lo people
I am working on a dog but I faced it in the wrong direction. Now in my front-view I only see his back :( I can't simply turn him around coz that would screw up my whole scene
any thoughts on how to rotate the front-view 180 degrees?
thanks

Select the front orthographic camera (use the outliner for simplicity) and then in the attribute editor or channel editor set the Z rotation to 180
that should do the trick.
[EDIT] I guess the rotation axis depends what your up axis is... play around.. you have a one in three chance to get it right ;)

select your front cam and enter 180 for the y-rotation..
maya mocks about the missing default front camera then, but it still works

Just go to view>predefined bookmarks and select back. In my opinion that's much better than rotating the model around everytime you want to see the other side.

hehe, of course that's because you concentrated on the more important functions.:D

Hi garma, you could duplicate your camera in the multi-lister(and image plane if your using one)with your shading network, rename it to back or whatever then just rotate your camera 180 to suit.Saw this in a tute quite a while back, it was for using a back view of a car blueprint, but it should be just as useful for a model i think, you can switch anytime you want now just select the 'back' camera.
Good luck

there is a script somewhere on the web that allows you to make back, other side, and bottom cameras automatically and have them in your marking menu.
the only problem is i have no idea where this is. Does anyone have/remember the link?

@MunCHeR + Goon: There is already a back camera in Maya. No need for a tut, just look at my first post.

thanks twisted ankle, my eyes must be shut lol.....hey i just tested it out, the viewport is still labelled as front!(or whatrever the default the viewport was on,whats going on there? Ithink i was thinking in terms of imageplanes because of the tutorial i did using this method.
Cheers

Goon:script could be on highend3d, most of them are :surprised
this what you mean? http://www.highend3d.com/files/dl.3d?group=melscripts&file_loc=flipCamera-v1.0-.mel&file_id=843
unfortunately, I don't see it on highend3d. The site i saw it on was some really ugle html site, and i didn't take much notice at the time
Twisted-ankle: thx. I have used the bookmarks before, but I got really odd results with them. Like the front camera would somehow get stuck in side view, perspective would go wacky... so I've just given up on getting them to work.

You have to do a little work to get it exactly the way you want it.
First make a new camera, say another front camera, name it "back" and then do the predefined bookmark thing.
It works that way, it is just a couple more step than you would really like to deal with.
