D-load the makeTree script from higend.com and you get a pretty decent idea of making a tree with nurbs,.
or you could make it from polys extrude your §ss off :)
or Pfx huuu!

i've done it with subds. i just put in 2 imageplane for reference and then go by the extrude face and the other poly commands to build the tree out of it.

Well, I have PLE so I cant download any plugins.

Does anyone know of some tutorials?

this isn't a plugin it's a script. so even PLE should be handle it.

This is done in Maya for the short ALFRED.

I use sub-D modeling and bulk out the tree. change to poly mode and split some faces in the upper areas of the trunk and extrude the limbs. Place in more branches and finer limbs/trigs or as for this one i've covered the tree in Paint effects leaves now so no more trigs were needed.
Good luck on the WIP,

Okay, I attempted to model a tree of some sorts out of a NURBS cylinder by pulling CVs around.. How can I extrude and make the branches? Is there an easier way to model a tree using NURBS?(I dont want to use polys).

*Sigh* Im so lost when it comes to modelling:annoyed:

d-load the 'maketree.mel' then you understand one way you can make a tree,
other harder way is to PatchModel it (alittle bit tricky)
one more way is to make the tree live and draw a curve on it and then duplicate it and loft the curve-circle to make a branch.

if you are a total beginner:
have you tried to make a tree with polys? really easy!!!! but it could be heavy,.

I couldnt find a "Maketree.mel" script at highend3d

EDIT: I found it under the name "Tree Generator"
