Speed Modelling 18

Welcome to the new speed modelling.
We are a couple of members here now that try to rotate the activities between us, if you got some ideas for items that we model or if you want to post a thread on your own let us know.
Let's just try to stick with weekly activites otherwise with my personal experience in here it is difficult to keep the ball rolling.
There will be a new thread every Saturday from different members.

Lets do Travelling:

suitcase
toothbrush
goggles (swimming or skiing)
travel clock
flippers or ski boots

Time limit: 1 hour each, feel free to add extra time when needed.

wire

got a bit lucky with the Hair and Fur settings, otherwise this could have taken me over the limit. Still not quite right, but good enough

and another one.

not so busy monday at work...

travel clock - 1hr

wire

the drop down legs are a little fat. They also don't taper at the end. not sure how that works in real life..didn't sit well on the object so I didn't do it to mine.

Alright here's my Render. I worked on it for about 20 minutes. I added a texture to the back so you could see the whole model. So yup here we go!

Really good looking work guys!

Sadly had a bad infection in my mid finger of my mouse hand, and small surgery today. Not feeling good, can not move the finger and whole hand is tingly from the shots. Hope to be back up and running in a couple days.

Very nice detailed modeling. I like how you pay attention to details. Keep in mind that it's best modeling something, which looks complex (like flyjets, interesting cars, helicopters, an urban setting etc), as it looks more impressive for portfolio.

Nice work hear - I don't see any spam DaezD ;) you did a good job! how did you do the stitches? just another mesh repeating over the surface? (that's how I would do it)
Did you use Hair and Fur Settings from Maya? How do you do it that it only has the fur on the parts you want? I have really no experience how it works but tried to apply it once on a few faces on a mesh - but turned out that the whole mesh than got fur ...
If you wanted to stay very close to the suitcase reference and want to work a lil bit more on it, I would look again at the scale. I think the parts on the front are too tiny and to far away from each other.

I can't see litzmans work...

mister3d is right about that - thats why I want to make themes so you could do a setting out of these

jburford - Get well soon! (but I would have preferred not seeing that picture...)

Thanks Sundaynights, i did feel like I was spamming though, hehe.

you're right, the scale on mine isn't the same as the picture, I wanted a bigger suitcase :) The stiches were a simple spline, with render settings and then the Array tool to get the spacing right.

The Hair and Fur is a little complicated. I use Max, so i'm not sure if the settings will be the same, but I created similar shape to the head of the brush, inset the face to create a border, and then sliced and inset again to get enough faces to represent the holes the brushes come out of. I then added the H&F modifier to the selected faces and fiddled with the setting til it looked right! - I'll get some screen caps of the process if you like?

That looks sore JB, get well soon!

one more.

Travel Plug - 2 ish hours. I lost count to be honest with all the interruptions

happy with the modelling, not so happy with the time. I've only recently started modelling properly again from quite a break, so i need to keep practising :)

@daezD
I like the idea of the travel plug - you did a good job but need to look again on the wires - they are like all over and some are also n-gons.
I am a maya-user - I might look it up and watch a few tuts from DT for how to use maya fur. But thanks for the explanation! I also like the quick lighting setup you have there, with the shadows. I think that looks really nice - somehow I can't do something like this...

@litzman
your toothbrush has some issues with his edges - so it seems. you can get a rounder shape when moving the edges not so close. Deleting those who are not needed might also help.
What software do you use?

I use Cinema 4D. I had some issues with a knife tool though, like it flattened out the part where the bristles are. I probably shouldve moved them up to remove that edge, but hind site sucks

you're right sunday, I thought I'd pushed my 2 hours pretty much to the limit and over, and there was still quite a bit to do (including the n-gons ;) ) so i thought i'd call it a day for the competition. I'm still going to finish it properly though - all the text on the front and screw holes etc.

@litzman

if it would have been maya I could have helped and explained some things if needed...

@DaezD
would love to see the finished thing! feel free to post it here
So you are doing the next SMC? ^^

Yep, I am, if that' still ok? It's satuday, right?

A link (http://i64.photobucket.com/albums/h174/DaezD/cg/Speed%20Modelling/plugs_zpsb9416652.png) for anyone who's interested in the final plugs render
