Yes Editable polys take less RAM and computation than Meshes...

Straight forward really, just convert your Mesh to Poly and you have the same model taking up less space . :)

You can use Meshtools with editable poly's.

edge management is different.

you can tessellate inside edit poly.

Hmm. there's more if you look at all the functions.

I've found myself using BOTH of them, actually... Poly doesn't seem to have any sort of Extrude Edge function, which is what I find most useful for adding to my model... but Edit Mesh is terrible with just about everything else, so I'm converting back and forth between the two constantly. I dunno, maybe I'm just weird.

Yeah, I noticed that today too.

with editable poly you have no invisible lines and yer not stuck with 3 or 4 sided polys.

Sometimes the Edge Turn function in Edit Mesh can be very useful, though, when the invisible edges end up being oriented in awkward ways-- they're still basically there, you just can't do anything with them in Edit Poly.

I find myself switching back and forth between the two quite a bit. Seems a little annoying at first, but since it's only a quad click away the conversion isn't too bad.

I really like the retriangulate button in edit poly for dealing with invisible edges. It's easier than turning edges in edit mesh. Just select the faces you want fixed and press 'retriangulate'. Also the Edit Triangulation button lets you turn the edges, you need to click the two verts you want the invisible edge to use.

Do what Pixelfuk said, just few tips for instalation.Unzip EPoly.dlo and copy it into 3dsmax4\stdplugs and replace the old EPoly.dlo.
There you go you can work in your favorite way using the advanced features of meshtools.
