that's cool man, very nice.

The hair looks polygonal or subDiv to me, is that right? Did you do any post-processing?

The girl looks just great but i think the sword looks a little too soft. Can't really figure out why and what exactly doesn't fit but I think it look a bit like a butter knife. Some kind of smooth and not as sharp as a samurai-sword should be.

i agree with whats been said...also the fingers look like down where they attach to the palms/hands they seem spaced a little too far apart

looks like you have two lights...one key to the left and one blue to the right but maybe it needs one behind also maybe over head shining down

it looks like she has the sword in motion also, maybe just a tad of motion blur to add to the mood of the scene...

just nit-pickin here...awesome stuff actually

the blade on the sword bothers me alot due to the fact that the ripple looks like its comin forward from the sword...could you explain that cuz im not too sure if you meant that....Over all though...Very nice

Agree on the sword, The hamon line appears to be embosed up, It should be a subtle "Frost" on the Edge. I do like the effect with the hair though

- ears are a little bit flat

- the texture on her right arm is strange / different than the left

Ps : -->falling in love of her mouth ... so sexy

What imho the problem is with the sword is that the spots of the reflections are way too large which makes it look so strange. Maybe add a little reflection too, but reducing the size of the spots is the most important issue (I believe it was glossiness in maya :hmm: )

And make it a little thinner maybe.

The wavy line on your sword blade is called a hamon. It is caused by the way the blade is tempered. Basically, the back edge of the blade is covered with clay, whilst the blade edge is left bare. The blade is then heated and tempered. The line is where the exposed blade meets the clay covered back. To render this, it isn't a bump effect, merely a darkening of the metal. The blade is usually a little lighter and less reflective than the back of the blade whilst the hamon itself is darker and less reflective than the back.

Hope that explains it OK. You are right to put the wavy line on, it's not a bump map though!

You could add a groove down the back of the blade to add a little more interest. That's called a Hi iri BTW.

If you put "shinken" into a search engine you should find lots of pics of proper samurai swords.

Good luck

Andrew
