View Full Version : skelegons/bones orientation problem

I experience a strange problem with my bones

In the modeler, the skelegons for right and left arm are just mirrored and got the same orientation, but when I convert them to bones in the layout, the head and pitch axes are reversed for the arm and forearm bones. The shoulder and hand bones keep well oriented

Of course, the result is not the same when I rotate the elbow

An idea for the reason why and how to fix it ?

Thanks, I like your girl too. I don't think I could model a real human that well if I tried.

Here's a couple renders for you: (sorry they are in boring poses, but I haven't figure out rigging yet so i can't put them in cool poses)

"ROCCO"

Here's what the real Rocco looks like: http://vwtornado.baked.net/Fenris_Web/JPGs/Rocco_Side_Laying.jpg

"BINTU"

What are the banks of the bones above the collar bone? If you are in a parent coord system then how the bones are rotateing is being effected by the bone above it. SO check your coord system and also how the bank of the bone above the collar bone is pointing.

Skelegons also seem buggy, so I do all my bones in Layout. Thank god I have Ortho Pak so i have the control of skelegons but with only needing to stay in one window to adjust. I dont think i couldn't stand rigging in LW without it. Too bad you cant get the old plugin anymore...For somethign like it you will ahve to wait for LW8 with the new ortho tools built in :(

I'd thought so for a really long time and I don't expect to make a photorealistic one for a while, may be never. Try someday, I'm sure you can too.

The real Rocco wear no pants ? I'm really surprised ;-)

the bones above the collar bones have the same orientation for the two arms, as well as collar bones themselves. and they are parented to the same bone on the backbones, of course

my coord system is parent coord system but I don't undertand what to do else.

I'm a new user of Lightwave (about one year now), and I am a bit disappointed by the rig and animation tools. Waiting for LW8 ? I'm afraid I have to

and I have to read the entire VWTornado's thread about rigging for a weapon before :-)

I think its just gonna take time to learn how to rig properly...I'm a bit frustrated too, but stuff I know now, i was frustrated about when I first started in LW, but now its easy for me...it just takes time. And yeah, LW8 looks like its gonna be awesome for us would-be character animators. :buttrock:
