I’ve been working on this off and on for the past couple of months trying to get it completed for Expose2. This guy was a lot of fun and I really enjoyed working on it.

Way cool !!

haha, great character. Some features of the forehead don't satisfy me, but I am so into it. Maybe a bit smooth in some places too, but I can't tell where. my eyes fool me with this picture. But wow, great job

Reminds me of mr Blonde from Resevoir dogs :). Nice character, true American mafioso face
12-03-2003, 06:05 AM
great work! I love the style!!
12-03-2003, 06:34 AM
really nice job. Reminds me of Billy Bob Thornton.
My first reaction when I saw it was that it looked like Hugo Weaving....
Take his sideburns off, put him in a suit and give him singlasses, and you have Agent Smith.....
Very nice work...
Although the crack running up his forehead does feel a little strange.. ;)
12-03-2003, 06:41 AM
Thanks for posting the wips...I love seeing how people work.
The pic is really cool...I like how it seems really loose, but also really clean at the same time. Great job on the stubble!
12-03-2003, 07:14 AM

Great work! I would like to share my thoughts.
The face is almost flat, and the left side of the face makes this very apparent. It does not appear to curve around the cheecks and brow. Feels like it hits that hard edge. The right eye socket appears a bit flat also. Same applies to the left side of the mouth and chin--they move from round and organic to flat and cool.
Cover up half of the face and then the other. His right side is much more developed and pleasing. I hope you understand what I mean.
You have a great piece here and I am hoping to share some things I see, myself, to make it better.

A truly magnificent style and image :applause::applause:
Gorgeous texture and colour work...
The manner in which you've manipulated the brush to follow the direction of the skin is very well executed too, not to mention the textural work on his garments also, especially the color of the waistcoat; then there's THAT background, also... ;)
Kind of reminds me of some of Lucien Freud's work from the 60's - 70's, but with it's own bite, kick 'n tussle; great stuff;
12-03-2003, 08:45 AM
Very nice work! Reminds me a lot of Billy Bob Thornton. I think it is because of his eyes and eyebrows. Did you reference him at all?
12-03-2003, 08:46 AM
Very well done.:applause: :applause:

You know before I critique anyone's work I always ask what it is exactly that the artist was hoping to accomplish in his/her work, simply b/c I don't want to sound like a complete and total idiot telling someone what's wrong with their work when I don't even know what is it exactly that they are trying to do (hint, hint to some you out there). Once they tell me then I give them feedback on how to they could have better acheived that or simply that they did a wonderful job if I don't have anything to say about it. Too often when we critique we forget about the artists vision and we end up telling them how it should look b/c we have a vision of our own.

I like mostly the blending of the character with the bg, it seems match perfectly and the mood is wonderful!
Hey this is great stuff!
Really hope you make Expose2, it should in my opinion...

I think it looks pretty good. It's lacking a lot though... if you like doing portraits, check out the masters. You'll see that yours is missing character. What I mean by this is, I dont get any sense of what kind of person this character is by looking at this picture.
Is he a cop? Is he a mafia guy? Is he just ****en nuts? Impossible to tell....
Check out some of the paintings by Ingres... he's undoubtedly one of the best draftsmen who has ever lived as well, so check out his drawings as well. A good majority of these are portraits...
The color and tactility for this piece are excellent...
12-03-2003, 04:23 PM
perfect style and render!!!
12-03-2003, 04:33 PM
"are you going to bark all day, little doggie? or are you going to bite?"
nice work dude :)
12-03-2003, 04:34 PM
Great work. He reminds me of the computer nerd guy on Alias.
12-03-2003, 05:26 PM
thanx!:bounce: :buttrock:
12-03-2003, 05:39 PM
GREAT GREAT JOB,
Except one tiny little thing that poped up to my eyes the moment I saw the image.
The right eye of the character which is further fromthe viewer seems to be smaller than in reality because as you see his face is not much drastically turned to the camera, just a tad.
Other than that, GREAT GREAT.....
12-03-2003, 05:42 PM
Wow, awesome job! :buttrock:
I have to agree, I saw Agent Smith in him as soon as I saw the wip image, but the final doesn't seem like it as much...
:bounce: :bounce: :bounce:

I really dig the style here. I see a lot of Hugo Weaving in this character. Maybe a mobster or old chicago cop version of Agent Smith? Heh Heh. I really like the WIPs, that helps a lot on the understaning of how you put the image together, which I love seeing. THANKS!
I like the second to last WIP, it had its own solid, clean style as well as the last and final concept. GREAT WORK! :applause:

12-04-2003, 12:01 PM
Nice character. Also nice wip.
12-04-2003, 02:41 PM
Holy frag that's nice. There's much mood in your character,, the colors, composition. A job well done. Keep it going. I don't mean to be a jack@ss, but what medium?
12-04-2003, 07:54 PM
His face looks out of perspective.Like his eyes are shifted to the right of his mouth.
12-06-2003, 12:38 AM
Great looking piece, and i like being able to see the WIP. One question: is there a another step between step 3 and 4? Seems like a big jump.
12-11-2003, 08:02 PM
This is awesome. I love the progression picture too.
It looks like Jack Nickelson (spelling?) and the guy from GTA3 combined.
nice:beer: :buttrock:
