View Full Version : character: a girl's face
michu 12-02-2003, 12:22 AM This is from a charcater that I'm working on. I am having some struggle with her face and would really like to hear others' opinions about it.
http://firechrom.com/michu/ingerwip.jpg
I'd like her to have a pretty face, but somehow I feel this might not be considered as pretty to most people... well I find my sense of beauty quite differnt from most of the guys around me, so I really don't know.
Any comments are welcome. Lips too thick, eyes too small, nose too fake , etc :)

It's a bow. I was a bit embarrassed to show the whole WIP screenshot, but since you ask:

Looks pretty messy still, and I don't know when I can finish it...

hey, dont be embarassed, WIP is WIP, thats it. Hope to see her done since she looks really nice so far ;). her neck looks kindof weird to me, maybe since its so dark, i dont know, and hope to see the quivers for the bow done.

thanks all for the input :)
Proportion is something I've been straggling with, too. I'll find some references to check how to fix it.

The only thing I can say about the face is that it seems lifeless. She has no expression. She’s not happy she’s not mad, she’s not even bored. I think giving her some sort of expression would be an improvement.
Very good, especially her eyes. Is it a 3d paintover? Anyway, good job

I was purposely going for this expressionless look... like the one you see on models in fashion magazine. Thought the sparkles would help in bring her eyes to life but... you are right, she looks like a dead-fish. I'll try to put some anger in :)

Glad you find she pretty! you wouldn't believe how many changes I've made from the initial design.
I was at work and didn't have the earieir versions of this work, so I posted something that I was working on in the office.... Now I'm home, so I'm posting the initial sketch and the other WIP screenshots.

the one on the left was the initial sketch with some simple colouring. As I started to paint I decide to change the design and her look. In order to get her face really symmetrical, I used many many guides, and if I didn't like some part, i just earsed it completely and try again.... that's why she gradually looks more and more unlike the orginal sketch.
It's very inefficient, but this character is made for my own amazement so I just take my time :)

I posted something that I was working on in the office.... hehe, think your job's kinda cool... ;)
i think the actual grayscaled face is more beautiful than the one in the middle of http://firechrom.com/michu/valkwip.jpg... but she's looking pretty with the long hair on the left sketch also...
i'm making my first experiences right now (http://www.cgtalk.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=106992) and i'm enjoying to see some tricks and hints like the vertical blue lines to make her sym... so, thank you ;)
i think you're going to finish her and i'm really looking forward to the final..

I disagree that she has no expression... she looks very disdainful and remote, which works with the pose and even with what people pointed out as a mistake in the proportions (the entire upper body is just a little too small compared to the hips down). Very nice work so far. Only thing I would change about the face is to make the bridge of the nose less straight.

DON`T change a thing in her face - you wanted to make her "beautiful" and that`s what you did. She has a very unique expression, slightly cold, but beautiful anyway. I`d say stretch the body a little (looks a little plump in comparison with her elf-like face) and this should be it. Don`t be so modest, this is really good!

overall, i find her face pretty...there's just one thing bothering me - her upper lip is much too large in proportion to her lower lip. but still, really good work!

i'll have to agree her face is indeed pretty...ok i know it's a wip but her legs are imho too fat - a thing that outbalances her beautiful face when you look at the whole composition..
keep it up

I'm watching Miss World 2003 on SkyOne right now, hoping I can learn something about beauty and improve this picture...

Nice.
I only think you should have more attention of details on her arrows and cloth, like you do with armour.
