12-01-2003, 09:54 PM
just saw this posted over at AICN, but haven't seen it here.
heres a piece from it
"The word is that PIXAR is starting their own 2D Animation Division. A company that will use the PIXAR brand... that name which stands for supreme excellence, innovation and soul in animation today... and putting it behind the form that everyone there loves. 2D Animation.
The first film? Well, Brad Bird, who is wrapping up work on THE INCREDIBLES for Pixar is apparently going to be the goto guy on this to kick it all off."

I hope this is true. What a slap in Disney's face if it is, especially if they go to someone else for distribution. They're the perfect company to show people that 2D isn't dead.

Pixar could do a feature using all sock puppets and it would rule. Those guys just know how to do stories.

That would be cool... a pixar muppet division!:D
Plus they have excellent sock designs.

I really had a feeling that this was about to happen. Wow this should be nice to see how pixar shows 2D is not dead.

I have been predicting this as well...for many months...although I didn't think it would actually happen.
Man, I'm giddy!

haha! AS IF!! I'm sure this is just some hopeful rumour. I hope it puts ideas into PIXAR's heads though.
Well, we can dream can't we?

"haha! AS IF!! I'm sure this is just some hopeful rumour. I hope it puts ideas into PIXAR's heads though."
Yeah, I thought I was gonna get burned for posting the link. Its prob just a rumor, but glad to see other people get excited about it as well.

I don't like the idea of slapping Disney in the face.Too many great memories of past excellent movies and all else Disney. But Pixar and 2D would be just beautiful and fun to see.

I should have said slap Eisner in the face.
DisneyCorp blames 2D for their failures, so think of the irony if Pixar does a 2D feature that does terrific, after Disney just shut down their 2D department. It's sad, but you would have to appreciate the irony.

I had a hunch that this would happen as soon as i heard roy disney left. It would be awsome if pixar hired Disney to head up their 2d division.
12-02-2003, 12:21 PM
If this is true, PIXAR is the new Disney!! Whooohaaa!!:D
Hope that the love Lasseter have towards japan animation especially Miyazaki, will have some influence in their 2D stuff.

Bwahhhahaha...Maybe poor Glen keane and other animators can get back to their animation discs instead of sitting in front of maya..(shudder)..that would be great if pixar hired all the Disney animators and let them go back to doing what they do best!!!..Disney executives are morons and should be fired!!!!!!!!!!!

One of the guys who works at Pixar and frequents the IRC channel said something to the effect of:
"Huh? We're starting a 2d division?"
I would take this news with a grain of salt....
12-02-2003, 05:08 PM
yeah, my 2D sources today told me I was crazy when I told them what I read too.
12-02-2003, 05:13 PM
But then again, Linda Tripp IS getting married.....so anything is possible?
12-02-2003, 05:26 PM
Well i don't think they would confirm on that, if it hasn't been a press release for what. Lets just hope it happens and that the pixar employees are just playing dumb.
12-02-2003, 05:47 PM
One day we will be taking our children to PixarLand instead of DisneyLand.....
12-02-2003, 06:23 PM
I certainly hope it's true, Pixar doing 2D would be just awesome, then again, Pixar doing anything would be awesome...;-) Yes, maybe I'm a fanboy, but c'mon it's Pixar :buttrock:

The fisrt animation tests made by the initial Pixar crew was a combination of 2D with 3D, you know 2D characters with 3D environments, this was 15 years ago.
12-02-2003, 09:20 PM
It's probably for TV shows only.
