Hero was Aphrodite's priestress on Sestos. She and Leandros were famous lovers in Greek mythology. Her priestress status forbade her marriage but they kept having a secret affair which eventually ended up tragically for both of them.

Her face is very pretty and the background....

wow, I love your colour choices. The scene in general is totally front page stuff
It's a shame you didn't finish in time for the contest :hmm: It would have done pretty great I bet.

Thanx guys! :)
tyio : yes i agree but those sleepy eyes were Gene Tierney's most distinctive trademark.
( j' écris en anglais pour éviter qq problèmes de susceptibilité survenus par le passé... en tous les cas, merci!)

nice work there. the left hand looks a lill off though. You capture her really good in there. and the framing of the image, stands out
12-01-2003, 07:00 PM
You might want to consider doing some more work on her right hand. Something looks off with it, but it could just be me.

Beautifull work as usual Roger, very detailed, specialy the face, it haves a baroque feeling that evoques an old oil painting.
Lovely image, you should put this in a big frame, and hang it in your wall!:bounce:

Gorgeous work... the style is very reminiscent of old cover illustrations from magazines and books, movie posters too. Just breathtaking!
Yeeaaaah, trop sympa man/ How kind you are :p
(clair, yen a qui sont trop venere qd on ecrit francais, en plus, ce sont d'autre francophone qui font la remarque, j'te jure ;) )

its beautiful as everyone as said. so once again, amazing work, wish i could do it  . now for a critique, the right hand looks more like a claw, then a hand, i think its the way the bones appear on the hand, maybe make theem a little smaller, or indicate the middle finger somehow to give the hand a more slanted perspective as opposed to the profil view of it. but once again im no expert, its just what i see and what i think might fix it. once again its an amazing peice, otherwise we wouldn't nit pick. :buttrock:

Re: Roger Nguyen.
First, I'd like to say that you are a great artist. This should in the next Expose! The reference of Gene was a good choice - glade to see a study of someone really beautiful other than some young tart from today's little collection of...errr...Tarts!
Second - if I may - some nit-picks. I'm not sure on this - but look under her jaw and how it runs upto the ear. It seems a little too "Chubby". Just a little mind you! Also, I'm not sure on this - but I too agree about her left hand. The offending part is her little-index finger - Something looks a little odd...
I'm nowhere near good at drawing so I'm not one to crit another's art - especially a fantastic artist like yourself! But I do feel Its only right to give you my honest opinion...
I definetly look forward to the next piece!:bounce:

Very impressive. you captured the actress, but best of all you somehow captured the feel of an old movie. I'm guessing it's the tomes you used?
Anyway. VERY nice.

Lovely pic and composition. One thing i noticed is that the back lighting should as well be aplied a little more on her ear neck and jaw. That jaw light outline alone doesn't do the trick i think. Since her back is wide open and well lited it could use some more detail as mentioned.
Otherwise great pic once again!

Brilliant stuff, it's rather enchanting.
Wow!! Nothing I can say... That's very-very very nice...

That's a great picture Roger!
It seems to be a HUGE amount of work. For such an amazing result it was worth it!
I love the vintage touch.

Thanks everyone for your comments. :)
yeah, i was aware of problemes regarding her hands and back as it had been pointed out on other forums but i kind of get too lazy lately to take on the corrections. may be in a while, the time to get a fresh new look on this pic.
Duecenage : no prob, you can do whatever you want as long as you give the credit. If you need a larger version, just let me know.

Oh! What a beautiful woman!!! (joke)
I very like your artistic feeling ,your skill , and the classicality atmosphere in your opus.
12-23-2003, 12:13 PM
Great work man!!! She looks really gorgeous. I am however not happy with her dress!! Could have been a more 'touch' type dress...also I found the hand rather unusual...no shadows! Otherwise great!!

M-m-m-m!!! Wonderful!!! :applause:
09-09-2004, 08:16 AM
yep...this is fabulous...though it does look 'hollywood'-ized!!! The robes could have been better...they do look crumpled and unpressed...a goddess ought to be dressed real 'clean', right?! Other than that....absolutely beautiful!

Great work...I love your style and colors...Did you participate in the M&S Challenge?
