Align to rail is a good idea indeed. This reminds me the power of the loft tool in 3DSMax.

You mean have 3 polys and select 3 rails and have it operate?

That should be easy to code up.

Select one poly in foreground , and select background layer with multiple curves , plug-in make auto clone poly to all curves and extrude its , and Magicbevel's Scale and Spin functions are great addition to this plug-in.
