Hi!

I need a new workstation! My primary work is in Combustion and in Lightwave. I render all my lightwave projects in diffrent passes (Occ, Spec, etc) so itīs creates a lot of files.

Budget: 2500$ - I got screen, CDrom, Mouse and keyboard

1.
Xeon / Opteron / Athlon MP

2.
RAID? RAID0/1/5
s-ATA/SCSI

3.
Graphic card

kind regards,
KDM

Opteron without a doubt. You can migrate to 64 bit when it is available. None of the others ofer that flexibility.

Opteron is fastest .

Hypertransport on the Opteron is much faster than the Xeon being limited to an obsolete FSB.

Raid: I prefer SCSI, SATA is still slower. But it is cheaper.

nVidia on the video. FX5900, or Quadro if budget permits.
