View Full Version : Mac version?
tmpbounce 11-30-2003, 09:41 PM Ions ago PMG mentioned a Mac version was in the works. Since, there has been no mention of it on their website. All my e-mails on the subject go unanswered. Does anyone know anything about the mac version? I've been looking forward to using Mesiah for a long time. It would be sad to not see it available to Mac users.

yeah, You are right...
Its weird, that noone from PMG has answered on your question yet....
If Messiah was ported to Mac, I would consider going back to Apple .....

I finally received a reply. Here it is:
Porting messiah to the Mac really depends on if we get enough requests for a MAC version to be able to justify the
development resources, and at this point it really hasn't happened.

I'm starting a camaign to get Mac users to request a port. I've been playing with Motionbuilder, which is available for Mac. SO far I find that Mesiah is more powerful in terms of character tools, which is what I'm looking for.
Please send them a message requesting a Mac version!!

Buy a PC, more open, more flexable, and a lot more cheap...
don't turn this into a war. we've seen it too many times and there's never a winner.

While a PC is an option, I really don't have the money to invest in a new machine to use only one piece of software. I have everything I need available on my mac, except I'd really dig having messiah.
Thank

LaBuzz have a point. I use both but I find out that videoediting is way better on a MAC than a PC in terms of cost and equipment and he couldbuy a dirt cheap PC - run messiah and bring everything in frames over for polish plus he gets the plugins that ppl write.
Julez and I have the same philosophy. I have a PC for 3D and a Mac for video and music. Cant beat this set up. I even have a Dr Bott switcher so I can use that cool Mac LCD with my PC too.
Really Im not bragging just saying that using both is the most freeing. I will never go back to using just one platform.

If you're using a Mac only for video editing, check out Vegas 4 for the PC. It's easily in the same league as things like Final Cut Pro. And if there IS a feature that's missing, it'll be there soon. Sort of like messiah. :)

I use Final Cut Pro extensively, and am quite attached to it. I am also starting to use Shake for some compositing work, which for my freelancing would cost twice as much for a PC OS.
If I can't get PMG to consider a port, I may have to eventually buy a PC to use Messiah. That would be unfortunate, though, because I believe Messiah is fantastic software, and it would most certainly sell to Mac users. At last estimation, there were 30 thousand Mac Lightwave users. Maya users are far more than that (not sure the exact numbers, only that Maya is the #1 selling 3d app on Mac).
The market exists. PMG Should take advantage.

I would be interested in a Mac version.
If only to see Modo demoed as a messiah plug-in ;-)
Seriously, Mac is interesting for portable solutions as well.

Fred ..what kind of PC do you run that on.
Final Cut Pro pretty much edit video at realtime on Dual G4 1 Ghz.
Will a 3.0 ghz Hyperthreading work or do I have to find a dual 1.7 or 2 ghz machine?

If it comes to porting, I'd rather see a Linux port (for a cheap renderfarm). However, I'd rather see new features than any port.

And if I were still working with A:M, I'd say I wanted bug fixes before new features. But that doesn't seem to be a problem with messiah, although my full copy hasn't been delivered yet. :wavey:

I don't know if hyperthreading will have any effect. And it's realtime except for final rendering. I've been using it for four years now. Check out the demo: http://mediasoftware.sonypictures.com/download/step2.asp?DID=437
(You can also grab and try DVD Architect there. It's missing some features I'd like is still excellent.)

My G4 .125ghz Laptop edits video in real time with FCP 4. There are few transtions that are realtime as well, and more if you use offline RT capture for editing.

I agree with Fred, Vegas Video is really great software at a great price point - so great, that Sony decided to make it part of their collective.

Yes it takes advantage of Hyperthreading - a quote from the 4.0 review below:
"This new version 4 has been optimized for the new "Hyperthreading" that's integrated into our Intel P4 3.06GHz chip we used for testing, and with that kind of horsepower under the hood, Vegas really zips along at a phenomenal rate."
Here are two reviews by Charlie White of Digitalvideoediting.com:

And if you really want to be slick - get this custom keyboard to go along with it :)

I'll chime in on this one...I've used, or at least tried, every video editing software out there (for the PC anyway). Vegas outshines them all. Including Premiere. Especially Premiere :wip: .
Extremely intuitive.

Another very happy Vegas user :) I used to use FCP but now do everything in Vegas. I originally started using it on a 1.3ghz Athlon with 512MB, and it was very fast. I'm using a AthlonXP 2700+ with 1GB now and it blazes. My only gripe is that it doesn't make use of dual monitors very well.
