If noticed a problem when importing files via a script (mel or python). I do this to build a rig from components. Geometry, proxy geo, control rig etc are stored in seperate scene files. A script imports these components and puts the rig together and does the skinning. I noticed that some rigs ended up with the skin bound incorrectly...

Long story, short. In maya 2013, when you import files using a script, maya does not finalize all the node connections until the script is complete. In my case this meant that driven keys and some other parts of the rig were not calculated, so the bones were not at the skinning pose like they should have been.

And the solution was to simply add this one line after the imports...

Great tip! Thanks for sharing. That is one of those little annoying things that can have you scratching your head for a while. Glad to know about it up front.

This 2013 version seems to contain many new surprises!
They should have a slogan: "Autodesk, you never get bored."
