View Full Version : Can't write files bigger than 2.99 Gig

This has recently become an issue for me, mainly when editing and printing video. I am using Premier for this, but I think it might be a problem with Windows 2000. I'm not really sure. I have a 40 gig HD with plenty of room, but if I output a video file that is 3 gig or more, I get an error that says I'm out of disk space. Does anyone know how to solve this problem, with either Premier or Windows? Thanks.

What filesystem are you using? I think fat32 has like a 4gig limit. NTFS should be ok for pretty much any size though.

I've heard that before with Premiere. It has a limit, it was increased with the last release, but i'm sorry that i don't remember the numbers.
3 gigs sounds right though...

Dang. Is there any solution that doesn't involve formatting?

EDIT: Niel, just saw your post. I was hoping that it was a simple solution within Premier, but I haven't been able to find anything. Thanks for the help though, guys.

i don't think the solution would involve formatting, i would look at new software, or just work in halfs with premiere.

Work on the movie in parts and then put it together at the end. Compress it if you need to, i can't imagine that it's 3 gigs when compressed :) Are you making a feature length movie in premiere?

Well, I really don't know enough about premier, so maybe there is another way around this.
All my source video are targa frames, so that isn't a problem, because while the whole thing may take up a lot of space, the individual files are rather small.
I have the whole thing edited and whatnot just fine. I understand that part. Now I want to print it to video.
When I select Export>Print to Video, it of course wants to make a preview file. I want uncompressed frames, so that I don't lose any image quality with compression, but choosing uncompressed video under "preferences" results in preview files that are larger than 3 gig, so it doesn't work.
The frustrating part is that the targa frames play just fine, but they aren't synced with the sound, so that doesn't work, either.
So, I don't know. So far I haven't been happy with any of the compressions that I have played with. I get too many icky artifacts. I guess a suggestion on the least lossy compressor could help me out, too.
Thanks again.
