View Full Version : mirror nurbs?
animationfx 06-13-2002, 04:41 PM I have a model in nurbs, and I would like to split it in half and mirror it. Then reconnect the two halves together.
So far I seem to be unsuccessful. The number of vertices are the same on either side, but I cannot get the two halves to reattach.
I have done this with edit mesh, but not nurbs. Converting it to edit mesh does not seem to be much help either. :hmm:
Any help/comments would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Here's a rundown of the steps you should take to mirror/'weld' in Max's NURBS...
1. Select the NURBS object you want to mirror,
2. Under Create Surfaces select Mirror
3. Select the Surface you want to mirror
4. Hopefully you should now have both surfaces next to each other but contained in one NURBS object
5. Now go to the Surface Suboject level.
6. Select one of the surfaces
7. Now press Join
8. Select the edge of your surface and then drag to the corresponding edge on the mirrored surface.
9. Choose Zip from the Join options dialog.
10. Finally - play around with the tolerance/surface settings if there are any irregularities.
Hope this is helps - It was off the top of my head so there's probably some errors in there!

Thanks for the help!
After I clicked on the "join" button and selected the objects to join, the Zip option produced undesirable results. The "join" option within the join tool popup box did produce better results.
What is the difference between the join option and the zip option?
