Speed Modelling 8 - 07-14-2012 to 07-21-2012

Speed Modelling 8

Welcome to the new speed modelling, this time we are doing it more simplified with a set time limit for each of the items. I will keep the objects real simple so each week there will be 5 new items.
Gonna try this over the summer with a new thread every Saturday.

Items (2 hour time limit for each of the items) <----(this week only)

- remote control
- frying pan
- wall clock
- nintendo cartridge
- knee pad

This week you get 2 hours for each of the objects, as they can be a little bit more complicated....

Heres a frying pan that I did in 24 minutes and it's wireframe

I'll do one off the list a day I guess. I got nothing better to do.

I'm not sure how long it took me to do this because I stopped in the middle of working on it to go eat. but I'm guessing 50 or so minutes. Hope you guys like.

next the remote control, I'll take the full 2 hours on it and make it really good . . . hopefully.

I would like to say nice work to everyone, it's good to see some high quality models being produced in such a short amount of time.

kneepad (http://www.flickr.com/photos/sundaynights/7611127888/) von Sundaynights (http://www.flickr.com/people/sundaynights/) auf Flickr
(hope it works - first time posting an image with flickr - where do you upload your images???)

So, this is my kneepad, I started two times all over, and needed with the first and second tries 4 hours... I wanted to do it all in one piece - but that was not doable for me, than I tried to do it with several pieces on a roundet surface and got pissed XD I tried again and startet to model on a plane surface these bumbs and things, then I combined everything and bend it, lastly made the round surface and got on some materials and bump.

SO not happy with the result - but time got by and I had nothing else to do on work.
And since I picked it I wanted to finish it (and I wanted to poste something in time!)

@rourker:
how did you work yourself around this nintendo cartridge? The place where "Nintendo" is written, so its all smooth and nice even with all that edges going along the surface. How did you do that?
Inserting all these edges before and then pushing and pulling verticies to make it smooth and round?
Or did you make it first smooth and round and then inserted these edges? -> If i do it like this it always loses the smoothness.
What software do you use?

--------------------EDIT
ok, I now know how you did it and I used both wayes mentioned above - it didt lose its smoothness though ^^
that cartridge of rourker is really good! Its like the original, totally!
I also love the clock hands you made.

I like whoms clock as well - because you modelled everything!

Sundaynights, that's good practise, I do that myself sometimes as you start over you have a different view where to start the next time around. Looks good imo. :)

Since I have mental ray set to smooth edges that are 60 degrees and under it makes it look smooth. So really it is just an illusion of the software, sorry for the confusion.

Also I use XSI, I find it has the best modelling tools out of all the software's I have used, although I haven't given 3DS Max or blender a fair enough try to disregard them.

Thanks for the positive feedback sundaynights. your kneepad turned out excellent. Can't wait to see how your nintendo cartridge looks.

Thanks whom and rourker - you are right, all for the practice ^^

So I definitly should do the cartridge next ^^
and I need to try out XSI!! Have it on my computer since ages but didn't even start it yet - still busy with mastering Maya XD
