I am currently building a new desktop, for both graphics use and home pc. Im not real into computer games, but would like to be able to run them fairly well. Main priority is dv and 3d though. Just started research for machine a few days ago (Holiday bonus ho!), so these specs arent set in stone, but so far the system looks like its gonna be:

Dual Athlon MP 2400+
Either Asus A7M266-D or Tyan Thunder K7
2x Crucial 512MB DDR PC2100
Win xp pro & Redhat 6
Inspra 17"LCD Monitor Model XJ-2K701-1

However i havent looked into video cards in a LONG time and have no idea about what are good. Had some bad experiences with ATI cards at work, so im only really looking at the nvidia line. My question is, could someone give me a quick rundown on which chipsets are good for cg and video applications, but will run most games well enough for a decent price? budget is 150-250$ or so, but as high as 350$ might be possible if its really needed. Thanks in advance for your assitance.

Ah, forgot to say, i plan to start with one monitor, and when i have some spare cash add a second one, so a card that supports dual is a high priority factor.
