i had a strange problem today i have a model iv been working on for a few months now and i save it ever so often but for some reason it wont open my last save the strange thing is the file size on the file i cant open is 31 megs but all the ones before it are 1.5 meg or less
iv tried importing it and also tried merging it to maybe grab part of it but nothing seems to work if anyone has any ideas please let me know
i had thought that i could use something like 3d explorer and then move it to one package and then back to max

Hello
This is not really a help, but i had this once in MAX too. It happended to me because I saved the file with open groups. With closed groups it was only a few megs, but with the groups open, the filesize exploded that much, that I was unable to load it again. Fortunately I was used to save isntances and did not loose that much hat way...
Still this is completely weird to me, but well, this is MAX...

i thought of that but iv been working on a diffrent project for a little bit and so all the autobacks are of the new project im thinking if i can get another program to read it i can import it to something ( like lightwave or something ) then export it back to max

Though this might not be it.. when working and editing in Editable Poly ....Max has a tendancy to bloat like this almost exponentially.. If this is the case try converting to ediable Mesh and back.. that usually clears it for me. :)

as for opening the file, I'm not sure this is the problem, but make sure you have a lot of free space on you system drive, max can't open files if it doesn't have enough free disk on the system drive.

hOpe this helps,

Welcome to the World of 3DHELL MAX Dude!...
now you learned an important thing, backuping your scene every
one minutes by yourself in a seperate directory & always holding
down the CTRL+ALT+H (Hold Command)!!! :)

...I think of are :

as ofer said make enough space on your hard drive,

for the change of size I will think of too much vertex uvmap datas or something like that (don't remember exactly), I had this problem several time. A reset xform was the unique solution for destroying those huge datas, but it kills your pile...

What you can do is try to merge with a new project your objects...

If it doesn't work try object by object untill you find the object that could be corrupted...

if I think of something else, I'll come back...
