I've modified Joe Cosman's Demon model by adding some loose skin under the neck area. I'm trying to apply Soft Body to this area using Metaeffector. Actually before I even assign the weighting - I get this error:

Object has no matching soft surface defined

What does that mean? And how do I fix it? Thanks:)

You must enter the objects surface name into the surface field in the softmapping tab.

That's true, and if you're going to use a Weight tool, you don't have to worry about a surface name.

Chikega, since you're using a Weight tool, don't worry about that previous message.

OK .... I've done it two ways. Under Soft Mapping I entered the name of the mesh "Devil1" into the Surface field and I get this:
"Object has no matching soft surface defined"

Next, I enter the surface name "Default" - but the demon has two different surfaces - one for teeth and the rest is default. I get "ERROR: No matching soft surface polygons"

OK - I applied the Metaeffector - everything's looking good - the effector is assigned to "Devil1". The Softbody effect is assigned to "Devil1". I'm still getting the same error message. When I assign the metaeffector to bloat or melt, it works great - but the Soft body is giving me a slight fit.

Images seemed to help last time ... so, can you see anything in these images that look strange. The melt effect was turned off - I didn't know how to remove it - the "Remove" button doesn't remove it.

You wouldn't enter the object name, you'd enter the surface name that you'd want to affect. And name matching is case sensitive. Is the surface's name "Default" or "default"?

BTW, I doubt very much that you'd want to use Soft Surface because there will be virtually nothing holding your object in place (your entire object, excluding teeth). You'd want to use a MetaEffector or Curve as a weight.

You're going to have to be a bit more specific when you say that SB is giving you a fit.

A few tips:
1. Ignore the error message if you're using a Weight tool. (try deleting any name that may be in the field)
2. Don't move your model in Setup or the weight field will be offset
3. Set your Effector to Constant (SB doesn't currently use the floating point values)

Also, to delete an effect, select it in the item list and delete it like you would any other object. Alternatively, delete the effect's tool, and the effect will be deleted as well.

Lyle,

Did you see the reply where I applied the Metaeffector with several screen grabs above?

And if you still get a problem with 1, be sure to enter the surface name properly. As I said, it's case sensitive.

Well ... hallelujah ... it worked. I didn't do anything different except move the Force edit sphere and it started calculating. I'll have to go through the motions one more time and document as I go along. I appreciate you helping me out ... Lyle. I've learned a lot during my vacation. You and Fred have been very supportive.

This is going to be it for me for a few days ... I'll be away from my computer and on the road to North Carolina. I'll be in turkey-coma heaven :wise: ... have a great Thanksgiving guys!
