View Full Version : Need help with UV texture's problem. URGENT

i've started with a character with this UV set. which has to be no problem when i paint texture on it. my typical way to doing texture mapping. http://kfc.wd2.org/charactersetup/uploads/uvproblem1.jpg
then i've started to do UV optimization until like this. which i believe will work for texture mapping. most of the game modeler use this technique. http://kfc.wd2.org/charactersetup/uploads/uvproblem2.jpg

problem is. when i do a test by painting a bump map and also a color map. http://kfc.wd2.org/charactersetup/uploads/bumpproblem.jpg we can clearly see that the color map works in this uvset. but the bump map has totally reversed for the oposite side. i wonder is there anyway that i can solve this problem.

Have you checked your normals? Bump 'direction' is controlled by the face normal direction, it looks like one side of your character is inverted.

Or, if your object is single sided (in its Render Stats in the attribute editor) and the 'opposite' switch is checked, it does this too. Although it's unlikely to be that since it would affect the whole object... I'm assuming here that your object is in one piece and not two halves.

If it's not your normals, I'm out of ideas :shrug:

Hi, You'll allways get an wrong bump direction if the second half-face gets the negatif scale of the projection...
Sorry if I'm a bit confused...:lightbulb
trick to avoid this problem.
Use a simple shader with lots of numbers on it.
you must read the numbers the same way on both side of the face. All inverted, or All good!

hey guys, thanks for the replies and attentions.
i've tried what u guys have suggested. if i flip normal for the opposite side of the character. i can solve the bump problem with that but i get a seam in the middel of the character. any way to solve this problem?

anyone have a briliant way to solve this?
or it's really a faq that this can't be done or it's only work for color maps (when it comes to game character)?

Not sure if this was already mentioned but: your bumpmap must always have the default UVset in Maya. You cannot assign it to any other UVset you make.
