This is the first design for my entry.
It depicts a biomechanical harbor for a dimensional warp system, built through an enormous black hole.
An impossible structure, yet made reality by an advanced alien civilization to accomplish interstellar travel.

Software: Photoshop 7

Witnessing a manifestation of singularity - a test view of the black hole.
This is a procedurally generated model, utilizing GeForce 2 MX 400 as the rendering platform.
I intend to realize the rest of the project procedurally, also!
Feedback and comments are much appreciated.

-Nik

EDIT:
Forgot to mention software used, it's MSVC .net 2003.

This is an texture design for one part of the bridge structure.
Now, let's see if i can code this to a c++ function ;)

This is my second design on the rail system leading to the warp.
My first sketch had too "blobby" appearance IMO; I added some definition here, as well as tested the induction electricity placement.

SW: Photoshop (as usual)

This is my first try at the organic material of the warp rail system.
The model is generated with c++ code, absolutely no modeling software used.
Rendered on GF 2 MX 400 using 4x antialiasing.
I do plan to use GF FX 5900 (or my own scanline renderer) at least for the final image :)

Comments are much appreciated.

Just to see what the colors look like when combined... though the final color is to be more orange, maybe.
The perspective is wrong on the rails, i just used my earlier sketch and blurred it :)

First sketch of a pod, many of which are seen to rush across the rails towards to and away from the warp.

You, as an observer, seem to be located inside one of these pods for some unknown reason, perhaps to prevent the matter of your body from ripping into oblivion in the all-powerful force of the black hole.

See previous pod for explanation; Added energy flow veins inside the pod to remind the observer (and myself ;)) of the organic material from which the pods are manufactured of.
I probably change the vein appearance to more organic look, once I get to code the model of the pod.

That pod is very bizarre and cool looking! And the organic warp-rail material. Wow!

Thank you for the comment :)

I plan to refine the pod shape some more, once i find time for this project (maybe at next weekend).

Glad you liked my work, more is on it's way!

My first attempt at realizing the warp pod in 3d.
No modeling software used, just DX9, MSVC.net and my trusty GF2 MX400.
The induction electricity is a completely procedural texture also.
I plan to attach the energy rail hooks more smoothly, but for now i just generated them and the hull separately.

Oh, and i did add some glow in Photoshop, to make some mood to the image :)

Comments are welcome again,

This is true volume fog, realized in pixel shader @ 9fps.
The noise octaves are pre-calculated in my engine, but the shader provides the displacement factor.
20 slices of geometry are used to render the shader result (for testing).
I plan to use an effect somewhat similar to this when illustrating the collapsed matter drifting to the black hole. Maybe add normal calculation for realistic lighting and shadow volume evaluation also :)

SW: own engine, jpeg compression provided by PS.
HW: Gainward GF FX 5600 U 128mb.

Didn't have time to finish my project
I had to earn money to get my daily bread... that, in turn, caused that I couldn't work on this challenge.

However, good luck to great rivals, may the best artist win!
I'll meet you guys again in some other challenge.

kind rgds,
-Nik
