View Full Version : Torn between two Mothers!

This is a continuation of my last post"What do you think of this System?"

:eek: Okay now you guys are confusing me (but I might add helping me incredibly at the same time) To wit:

I'm torn between two mothers - either the ASUS A7V333 or the SOYO SY-KT333 Dragon Ultra Platinum board.

The confusion stems from the fact that some of you guys seem to be saying that VIA bridges are the worst thing since Maggie Thatcher's twat, some say they're just fine. Both of these boards incorporate VIA (in fact most seem to), and I'm most concerned about stability and performance - I have no intention of overclocking this puppy!

All this talk of bridges and burning heat makes my brain hurt, but I want to hear it just the same.

Why with all these problems and inconsistencies do you guys still recommend AMD? It's enough to turn me over to the Intel side - HELP!!!

One last question - Anybody know how the sound is on these boards? Am I going to be sorry I didn't order a separate sound card?

Cheers:beer:

Are you talking about on-board sound cards?

I would always avoid the on-board (sound, video) stuff, it doesn't leave room for improvements.
I would say about half the people on here run AMD equipment (complete guess). It's proven itself worthy through the years, but the board haven't necessarily. I too am looking at boards, but i'm going to wait till the 'thoroughbreds' come out, so that t-birds drop.

I've had an asus before my current one that was great, and a soyo that was great, but this asus i have now is complete shit. It took a long time to get it running stable. I don't like the a7vs at this point, but there are others out there that do.
It seems to me to be all luck, with stability. I have a friend that had the same setup as mine and he had no problems like i did.

I would just recommend doing a search of the boards on user forums, and not tech-sites. Seems like all the big sites are selling out lately and praising everything. You get the real truth of problems from the forums and bb.

Thanks for the reply. Any suggestions as to which forums and bbs I could check out to get the real skinny on these and other motherboards?

Also you seem to suggest that recieving a stable mobo is a matter of chance and luck-well that makes me feel just great!:surprised

Does the same go for boards tailored for Pentium?

Speaking of which: Now I'm torn between three Pentium mobo's (ass-u-ming I choose Intel):

* ASUS P4B533
* Gigabyte GA-81RXP
* SOYO SY-P4S Dragon Ultra

Please any suggestions on what forums I can glean "the truth of the people" about motherboards will be greatly appreciated!

Cheers!:beer:
