Some of you might recognise this from the Lord of the Rings challenge, some time ago. I only did it as a B&W image at the time, but I felt like finishing it off, so here's the start to that:

Any crits would be helpful, as would ideas for the background...

My thoughts so far are to have him in a mine, perhaps with some mining equipment about...

I'm also leaving the bulk of the lighting untill a bit later, so any thoughts on that will be appreciated as well :)

hey!

your sketching ability is marvelous.. just marvelous!! ^_^

background: i think a desaturated blue/grey would be ideal for a background. think of your avatar at dusk, with moonlight.. that kind of feel

the slober is a nice touch.. but expand on that.. like a fish in his hand or a pile of food at the floor. this would be something to look at in detail but not to take away of the focus.

a night/moon lighting system might be tricky to draw by hand.. but if you think you're up to it.. it would look awesome..

just remember what you want the focus to be when lighting and for detail.. mouth, eyes, position.. etc.
