Hey peoples,

First post on these boards. I have been using 3ds max for about 2 weeks right now so im still new and ive came across 2 problems. The first problem can be seen here: http://www.i-factorstudios.com/3dstuff/problem.jpg Notice how when I apply the meshsmooth it creates a small jagged triangle. I have no idea why it does this and have been getting very frustrated with it.

My second problem can be see here: http://www.i-factorstudios.com/3dstuff/problem02.jpg Why when i extrude a polgon from any round surface it gives me non-smooth sides. Is there a way i can fix this without having to add a meshsmooth?

Thanks alot in advanced,

Nik

The first problem seems to be something to do with vertices not being welded. Try selecting the offending area and welding.

The second one is simple: Select either the faceted polys or the whole object, and go to the polygon properties rollout ('surface properties' under edit mesh), type 90 into the autosmooth box and click the autosmooth button.

90 ??
that's way too much; the hard edges of the caps are going to be smoothed as well!

Just select the whole mesh in polygon sub-object mode, and re-assign with autosmooth, leaving the threshold to 45.

The secones problem looks like a problem with no smoothing groups
