I'm doing a Pixar intro like video-clip. I'm almost done with modelling the lamp and now I need some help to set-up its skeleton rig. It should be able to move like the lamp in the PIXAR intro. Please PM me if you want the scene file to play around with.

Very gratefull for any help I may get

Thanks

Here is the lamp as it looks like now:

Well it might be helpful to know what program you are using to rig in.. basically though you'd place joints that begin on your pivot points and then parent the model parts to the individual bones in the skeleton.

BTW the wiring for the lamp looks extremely thin

I'm using XSI. So I've drawn a skeleton, but woudnt that just bend the parts, instead of rotating them?

This is how the skeleton looks like, but I have no idea where the joint should be placed.

That's why you simply parent the model parts to the bones instead of binding them.

The bones shoudl start and end at the point on the model where you want the rotation to happen..they are caled pivot points.

Okey, I think I get it. But how do I parant each part to a bone?
Do I need to convert those objects that should be childs to a bone to an individual model. As it is now, the whole lamp is a model, when I highligh the first bone for example and then try to pick the parts it should be parent to the program picks the whole model.

Thanks for your help

I'm not familair enough with XSI but I assume the model is a group and you want to pick sub components. Was this modelled in XSI?

You would have been better off asking about this in the XSI forum.

I'll ask about the difference between model and group and how to parant. Thanks
