View Full Version : Re:Price of Maya 5 in Australia
MunCHeR 11-24-2003, 02:24 PM Hi guys, I recieved a quote for a Maya Comlete 5 seat recently and i was well pretty shocked:eek:
Maya Complete $1999 US (of which the reseller takes his piece of the pie) converts to roughly $2761 AUS, you add a goods and services TAX(god bless the ATO) of 10% say $276 AUS which totals $3037 and my quote was $4398 incl TAX. :buttrock:
So my question is is why am I paying an extra $1361 of hard earned currency, this is either postage(not likely) or I'm standing in line for a lubricant free cavity search. Apologies for having a whinge but this is no small price difference whatever the currency, would be cheaper for me to get my sister(a US citizen) to purchase it for me and mail it.
Kind regards

Maybe they added in a year of support. I would definitely confirm all pricing.

god damn, that is one hell of a mark up ain't it, thanks for doing the maths on this one. Anyhow I don't find it supprising, I used to work for the owner of strom FX which used to be one of the main importers of 3d software, and he was one of the slimyest greedest pricks Ive meet in a long while.
Definently aviod the middle man if ya ask me, contact Alias and see if they will do it cheaper and ship it to ya or something like that, or see if they have a reseller in Australia who sells the product and sticks to the normal %30 retail mark up.
I'm preety sure Alias will help on this one, cause I think that they make more money for themselves if they sell it themselves and not through an re-seller.

I work for another alias reseller in australia i can tell you one reason for this could be most companies don't update there pricing on a daily basis its usually done on a quarterly basis for accounting reasons.
So basiclly if say you got a quote today based on a 70c to $1 rate and by the time the order was purchased the dollar fell to 50c to $1 you would be saving yourself a pretty penny and the company would wear it and vice versa.

Kabab, good point but i got a quote approximately a year ago, when the aussie dollar wasnt doing quite so well and nothing it seems has changed, do resellers charge whatever their little hearts desire or is anything infact related to what Alias charge for the software, that is what I'm wondering! I can only gather the price difference in Australia of Complete vs Unlimited would send most people into having a brain anurism.:banghead:

I don't think there is to much you can do but remind who ever your are buying it off about there exchange rate, there some margins shipping fees etc but there shouldn't be a huge difference in price.
Maybe talk em into giving you some training dvd's, support or something
