when an edge is created using tools such as drawSplit and split polygon, by default the new edges normal smoothing is set to hard. is there anyway to change it so that new edges are created with the smoothing set to soft?
explanation: i do a lot of character modeling using mayas poly tools. much of the refinement part of the process includes using "split polygon" and "draw split" to refine the surface of my model (which at this point has custom smoothing to create an nice organic surface). the annoying part is that every new edge I created is by default set to hard. i essentially get creases throughout my model's otherwise smooth surface. this becomes very annoying very quickly as i have to constantly select the newly created edges, and then set them to soft to get a true sense of my model's topology.
