View Full Version : need O-ext. object-generating plugin
cache 11-24-2003, 10:28 AM I do not know whether there is something like this, but i would be very happy if i had an O-ext. object-generator plugin or script (like the 'built-in' C-ext and L-ext objects) in max..
i would need it to create objects quickly like painting frames, window frames, etc..
i know i can create such objects using boolean, but
i dont like using it, 'cause
1-it takes too much clicks;)
2-buggy
3-and it takes a lot of time to adjust the operlands to be totally symemtric and to get them positioned perfectly.
...
So.. I am asking you.. can you help me out somehow with a plugin, script or tip ? :)
thx in advance.
byez!

Make a box, divide the box in one direction numerous times by the connect command in editable poly, select two vertices on the top and move them upwards with soft selection turned on. collapse the edges running through the middle and inset the ngons that you get. Bride the two ngons. Presto, window frame without booleans.

not really sure what you are trying to accomplish here, but
for anything frame related your best option is to draw donut shape [under create tab, Shapes panel] for squares, set the interpolation to 0 steps, for round up the steps to the amount you need for smooth detail. then add an extrude modifier et voila.
you keep all the control you need.
1 minor thing is that you need to rotate the object 45 degrees hehe

Hi there..
thx for everyone who replied
i also found a 'technique':)
here it is:
Create a tube
Height segs:1
Cap segs: 1
sides:4
need to rotate this 45 degrees as well
this way you can easily modify the radiuses and height of
the '[]-ext' :)
tx again,
case closed :)
