View Full Version : SubD to NURBS in Maya 4.5?
I was surfing the web, and came across the new features in Maya 4.5 and one of them said:
- Subdivision to NURBS conversion
Does anyone have any info on this? I'd like to know what the process is. And I'd like to know how this affects UVs and anything else I'm not thinking of.

It split the SubD model into patches so that it can be converted to NURBS.. Then you just have to stitch the patches and you got yourself a NURBS-Patches model from a SubD surface.

or you can use cyslice... just make a nurbs out of a polygon...screw the rest

also the some neat things with maya 4.5 ,
self shadowed particles...this is essential, a new light ; which is a volumetric light, a hardware shading node.. which allows real time shaders to work( hopefully I get this working cause this seems like my Indiana Jones Sr.'S holy grail quest...its taking forever! to get it to work)... and OF course the rendering has too few features to even care about...BECAUSE THE RENDERER STILL SUCKS D*CK! (sidenote: the renderer in maya will be the death of them...(not like anyone who uses maya doesn't already know this) I really wish they would work on this...If they would hire me I would do everything in my power to make the renderer better, but oh well.. mental ray is nice....unless you have renderman 10.... you can deal..by the way ..I know I am a very religious user of Maya..but I dl a version of xsi 2.0.1 ...Man! the intigration with MR is "butter!" .........But I still won't switch even with their cheesy deals.
and for those who got beef......
relax tampax.

oh by the way ...there is a new shader too,, it's a toon shader..but it looks really nice.... it has the same interface as photoshop blend layer... except where you separate the blend you can add another color to be your shadow.
have they improved the render engine ?

it's not just a toonshader :)
it's like you have the samplerinfo node and a connected ramp attached to every important attribute.
Do they have raytracing included or is thatt for the BIG update of maya 5 ?

i'm asked to write a review for some german magazines and how far i know it will be july. but don't nail me on that.
somewhat off-topic, but will Maya 4.5 have optimized support for scroll-wheel mice?
