How can a graphics programmer help with a animation project like a short animation film other than build the software to used for animation?

Maybe you can write scripts for software..(for making things easier)

You could integrate several solutions in the production pipeline.

e.G. write pluginīs or scripts that give the animator an easier controll. Create controlls that you could call a simulation setup.

An example would be braking glass: Programm a controll for the animator how fast the glass shatters, how many shards are there...

Imagine got a car in a short. You can write a script that simulates small bumps in the surface, with a controll over the amount of bumps. you could write an extra script that emits smoke particles at wheels when the car stops or speeds up.

You could write a script that automaticly rigs a character, for the case that you have several similar characters with only e few differences.

At least try to keep all the technical stuff away from the animators, so they can concentrate on their animation.

Hey thanks Laeng,
Curious, given you could write scripts for what you just mentioned, what language would the average person in the industry write that stuff in? C++? Mel? I'm just getting into Graphics programming and would really love to learn that stuff... thanks.
