View Full Version : compressing for the web
vrljc 11-22-2003, 05:45 PM I am almost done with my animated short; the short is going to be around 1.5>2 minutes. To keep my .mov file small, I am planning on using Sorenson 3 for the video compression.
However, what should I do for the audio? Should I compress that down to 8 bits? Any suggestions?

How about MP3?

Can't do MP3 in premier....but I can do QDesign2....which bit rate should I pick?
-vrljc
bit rate is determined by user bandwidth...
user bandwith > video bitstream + audio bitstream
56k modem = 35k > 24kbps + 10kbps
ISDN = 90k > 71kbps + 18kbps
broadband slow = 200k > 171kbps + 28kbps
broadband fast = 350k+ >285kbps + 64kbps
this is what I base the calculations on, but each movie tends to get a slightly tweaked version of these settings.
also, if your version of the codec allows... use a VBR and begin the movie w/ some static footage and silence to build up a bit reserve.

out of the following codecs for audio compression for the web, which one would you choose?
voxware
DSP group true speech
GSM 6.10
CCITT u-law
CCITT A-law
microsoft ADPCM
IMA ADPCM
or Uncompressed
I am using Adobe Premier.....outputing as video for windows, using the DIVX 5 video compressor, but I don;t know what to use for the audio compressor, if one is actually needed.
