This is a still from my thesis animation. This crab lives underneath a garbage can and dreams of life in a wonderful underwater world. This is it's fantasy world.

When I began this project, I freaked out to hear that Pixar was about to release "Finding Nemo." I went with a realistic character to be sure to not have any "plagiarized" critics. Lot's still to do, the entire movie is 02:00. This is just a frame. Thanks

crab looks good. the overall color of the image is a bit monotonous though. maybe make the water less blue, more green? like aqua color? maybe some red fish or yellow plant matter.

when you going to post the animation?

godeus25: I have to disagree, I think the color is actually pretty accurate, but a lot of that does depend on depth and weather conditions.
OTOH, I agree with you. The light refraction on the sea floor would indicate that the water is somewhat shallow.

onehotmouse: Great work on the image! As stated above, you might want to lighten up the scene if this is shallow water, or leave the color like it is now, and dampen/remove the light pattern on the sea floor.

The crab is fantastic.

Overall a really nice image.

Would like to see one with a lot more objects in it (more plants, some debris, etc.)

Really nice image, i like the color scheme, but i think some more contrast (either highlight or color) would do it wonders. But my main thing is the intereaction of the crabs legs with the sand, usually if their moving theirs a sand cloud where the "feet" go into the sand since that type is usually pretty loose.

the crab looks very good.

But maybe you should increase light a bit? The sun light in the sand and the shadows of the crab shows that it's not very deep.

And because it's a dream everything should be fantastic and therefore much light.

Keep up the good work

ToweringFigg,
You're right, about the sand being stirred up. I actually want to rework the geoemtry for the sea floor so that I can add some nice little details. The particle emission would be cool, (would also add a sense of water current.) I also was thinking of parenting a shape deformer to the leg tip to impress the sand as the leg steps down or drags the surface.
Thanks everyone so far, I'm looking at working on the lights first. The TOD could be at night or on an overcast day. The caustic needs to be sharper to appear more like the scene is shot during the middle morning of a sunny day. Updates soon, tomorrow perhaps.
