The idea behind this is:
You're standing on opaque ground, underneath are blue lights and green swirls moving round. There are strange plants growing near you that appear to bend light. In the far distance you see what looks like a massive wall. It suddenly brakes open, and a huge structure, that looks similar to a shark fin, hurtles towards you. You are struck by awe as sparks fly and ground brakes up infront of it....

Neat concept and story.
Imagine crashing on some alien planet just before an apocalyptic event happened. That would suck. Bad.
Good idea.

I wasnt thinking of something as big as 'Apocolyptic' ! But that puts a new slant on things.. like it. Although it'll be Apocolyptic to the viewer if he doesnt move :) . I just need to keep the tranquil "whispering" parts apparant . I might have deformed land to one side of the viewer leading from the wall suggesting that a similar event has happened before. Maybe this landscape's function could be as a 'crash zone' for these things, with light being used as the barriers.. Anyway onto 3dsmax..
Thanks for your comment.

I like the use of color and the story really will help you get the feelings you want out of this picture.
Thanks for commenting in my gallery

This is my newest concept, i arrived at it by taking photos and combining them in photoshop.
Looking at a mountain with a glowing river flowing down it leading towards a bubbling lake. There's a tunnel to the right middle and a bridge higher up if u look closely.

Thx BM for the comment...... I like your concept & think its a good idea, but also like the apocolypse idea... it goes in a direction I havent really seen in most peoples work. What if the object in the center was the cause of the destruction & was similar to a gravity well that was ripping the near by planets towards it to shreds?(very cool!) Also possibly if your focal point wasnt so centralized and maybe if there were more closer objects in the foreground to give the landscape a greater sense of depth I think it would really help the scene. Keep up the good work, hope to see some more soon:)

Used 3dsmax to create a concept here. I was playing about with Raytrace materials on a scene i'd created for my previous concept. I've fallen on what looks like a bubbling stream on the edge of a cliff. I'll keep the 'light wall ' on the left and turn it into a more obvious Alien structure possibly for use as a Hydro Electric kind of thing.

Needs a lot more work. I want the liquid to be falling off the left so i'm going to have to alter the texture and have the bubbles moving towards it. The structures need beefing up- more modelling especially. The transparancy of the liquid isnt right when overlapping the shore. Also wantto add more detail in the background on the left.

I'm trying to achieve an Organic look to the 'mountain side'. I prefer the greener specular shader on the right.

Hey, your latest image is great. Obviously a lot more to do, but the colours and shaders are really interesting. I don't really like the pink sky though, just doesn't quite suit the other colours imo. The foreground really reminds me of a coral reef, it looks similar to coral submerged in tropical waters.

a vast improvement. i like the last image, my suggestions would be to add some sort of structure or subtle alien life to your image possibly in conjunction with the cliff like organic thing you got going on the right and replace that low opacity texture that looks like a grid with something a bit more detailed.

Thanks for the crits and praise fellas, yea i'm more happy with the way this is coming along.
formoso: i agree with you about removing the grid and placing a more detailed texture there. I want to create an organic look with undertones of alien construction.
I'm definately going to add some structures but my imagination isnt working yet.
Ian: i also agree about the pink sky being out of place. It doenst look Alien at all so something completely different is needed.
designer2: i too wonder what ;)
I DO know is that i dont want to create an Alien city like alot of other artist r going for, because the brief says there is only a suggested alien presence.
So, the bit about having a "feeling that something was created here" is where i'm gonna go next.

Wow, cool color choices man. Everything is so vibrant but not washed out. Very nice.

The basic concept and your way to make your mind fly are really cool. Well, looking on your rendered pieces and the sketches, I see you are still sorting out ideas.
I liked the tranluscence of your Rockmaterial on the left, cuz it makes it somehow look being alive. The alien "moses-story" was funny to imagine, you're standing there in the middle of somekinda wonder and know, its gonna be your doom and if there are living things out there, they gon't give a !*#@ about you... maybe you could create something that is built of light having physical effect (something like the last thing a virus sees when a laserskalpell is heading into his direction)...
Whatever, you have a very inspiring way to think and I'll be here to see what you goin' to create, so keep rockin' and make us go wow!!!
