View Full Version : Will Older Software Run on Windows 7?

I am a little confused about this situation. If anyone has actual experience with this matter it would be appreciated to find out the answers.

At Corel's website they list Corel Painter 8 or 9.5 version as not being supported by Windows 7.
Then if you look at a retail box version of Windows 7 (Professional Version) they claim there is a feature with this version of the operating system that allows you to run in XP mode. The box does not specifically mention any software that will run in XP mode, I can only guess.

I would like to know if Corel Painter version 8 or 9.5, Corel Draw Gaphics Suite Version 10, and a Wacom Intuous 2 tablet will operate at all or correctly on either version of Windows 7: Home Premium version, or Professional version.

Can anyone here help with an answer to these questions from personal experience?
Your time and consideration are appreciated.

Virtually everything will run on windows 7. The only things that wont are old 16bit installers from the 90's or any old low level apps that monkey with the hardware like overclocking apps, virus checkers and so on.

Yes it will run, at worst with a couple of bugs.

I didn't have a problem installing Painter 8. With Painter 9, I had to turn off Aero when installing because the install screen didn't work right with it on, but other than that, no problem.

As for the Intuos 2, Wacom has Windows 7 drivers for it, so it would work.

I do have CorelDraw 10, but I haven't tried installing it.

I've been able to install older software with 16-bit installers (like Painter 4) by using a VirtualBox install of Windows XP 32-bit, and then copying the files over to my C: drive on Windows 7. Or if you have an old PC running Win XP 32 or Win 2000, you could install there and copy the files over to your Win 7 PC. As long as those apps don't need to write to the Registry, it should work.
