View Full Version : More than 24 materials in a scene??
insanelight 06-11-2002, 06:36 PM Ok, my question is very very simple...
I have to create more than 24 materials in a scene (in MAX 4.2), but the material editor show me up to 24 materials.
How can I create and manage other materials?
I can't think it's a MAX limitation! :hmm:
If you know the answer, please help me!

Sure, you can have more than 24. You can have as many as you want (I think).
Once you've created a material, and assigned it to an object in max, it gets saved along with the file. So whenever you open that particular file, the material is available.
Therefore, if you've already assigned it, you can safely reset/overwrite the material's entry in the editor.
To retrieve stored materials: In the material editor, click "Get Material", then select the "Scene" radio button. All materials used in the scene will be listed.
The Material Editor only edits the materials, it doesn't store them.
