Hello, I've been doing an animation ( 2D with 3D background ).
Right now i just finished the city where basically everything is going to happen. I have been searching for a while but most results were a bit old. Can anyone guide me how to start lightning a large scale city at night? Tips for the windows of the building ? Tutorial that can help ?
The camera won't have any move. I was thinking on using omnis and direct for sun, but i'm not sure yet.

Something that would approach to this lightning :http://mattburdette.com/studio2/mattburdette_urbanpolyptych.jpg

Thanks in advance!

you can easily use projection mapping for large buildings with pre- painted light textures in it.
For some of the windows you can map your windows texture in the self illumination to give it a lighting feeling.
for closeup you can use either point light or volume light .
and if you like you can add atmosphere in comp .
