Well after sitting on this concept book for a year, I am going to make it available for download. The book was inspired by the love of my life, Janay. She has constantly been behind everything I do and I felt it was important to give something of my creative spirit back to her. The work was completed in the late summer of 2002, and was my first real attempt at illustrating a sequential set of 3D illustrations in the form of a story.

While I know the book could use improvement, I had to get it done in order to be done with it (i didn't want it to turn into yet another project).

So anyway, I hope you enjoy it. I gladly welcome your comments and critiques.

Get it here (544k .PDF):You Are Who You Are When You Are Who You Are (http://www.policarpo.us/print_work/uarewhouare.pdf)

Back to the doodling board.

Hey that is pretty nice.

I was thinking real cool - a childrens book with 3D illustrations....then I read this.

"Family gatherings are the reasons cousins live so far away"

I am ready for the holidays with that one. :D

The cat is alsome policarpo. I guess you've had lots of long discussions on what sucks and what doesn't suck. :bounce:

How fun ! :buttrock: I'd love to do something like that sometime. What stands out to me is the fantastic colors in the renders (clouds in particular).

Wow, that was very cool

I love the stylized post effects!!!,

for some reason they remind me of those old tv shows where they would animate a cartoon in sand. Do you remember them? I know yours doesn't look like sand lol, I guess its the "classical" style that drew some parallels. Eitherway, Fantastic work :buttrock:

Hey, Policarpo: great stuff!
Love the style.

Maybe packaging it as a kid's calender, with changed images for winter, etc. (but with the great text) would make a publisher bite.
A kid's calender: haven't seen much of that.

Great !! I loved the style (i'm a big fan of boring 3d and it's quite a similar style).
I'm not sure kids would like the "story", but i think they could like the designs and characters.

Awesome stuff Policarpo. I had the first page about kids and the page about kids and sugar as desktop backdrops for ages. They rang a chord in me as I have boisterous 3 and 6 year old kids. ( WAAAH! - only joking ;) )

BTW, have you seen the 2D illustration Oliver by Imphead?

edit: Olives have always creeped me out. Most likely the odor and the thought of someone forcing a piece of carrot into the olive and watching someone sucking it out seem risqué to me. I find women enjoy olives a lot more than men, which is also disturbing. :surprised

saw the image on the front page and knew it had to be POLICARPO. read that article (believe it was lightwave) about your work and swooned. Looking awesome! You seem all set to take on Madonna with your children's book! :buttrock:

Nice to see CG that isn't all big breasted and sweaty.

Some of the sentances really appealed to me, but I doubt that kids would feel the same way, so choose your audience more carefully.
The illustrations are awesome and will reach people at all ages.

Policarpo, think your work is great. I've had the 'kids are usually confused after lots of sugar' pic as my background every other day ;)

Looks nice, hope to see some more stuff soon.

Policarpo, you have got to continue this, it is fantastic!!!

I think your style lends itself so well to a children’s book. It reminds me of a friendly Tim Burton animation :)

Don't stop their!!!

Thanks so much everyone. I appreciate the feedback.

azazel: yeah, printed it on a high end fiery, bound it and gave it as a gift last year.

thanks for all the great feedback...a children's calendar, now that's a great idea.

I haven't tried to pitch this before any publishers, because, well, I have no idea even where to start.

I may post Hi-Res stills of select pages if anyone is interested. I'll do the 3 most popular ones if any on is interested.

Thanks again everyone!

I really enjoyed that and agree with others. Do MORE!!!
As for HiRes images my first vote would be for 'Friends are the best when they believe in what you say' followed by the Olives. OK maybe the other way around I laughed at the Olives!

Looks like you have some of your "watercolor" post processing stuff in there. I love how your stuff looks like it's sculpted from nerf. How sweet it would be to live in a nerf world.

Really really nice.

I've had the luxury to watch the pieces of this come together. I absolutely love the final product - full of love.

The characters say so much, without so much as a mouth.

Great work Poli.

Poli, I’ve got to admit I was expecting to see your photoshop twist in the project, but then I realized the time frame involved would crate continuity issues . The illustrations work well for the subject matter and intended audience. I do think your new techniques will only enhance this type of work in the future. Looking forward to seeing more.

Cool, really cool. I like it.........

I also amd trying to write a childrens book, which I have the story all palyed out and the characters but am having touble getting it down in a fashion that will not bore kids with over writing and but not make them lose attention with to simple.

It is very hard thing to do, especialy tyring to introduce fun and exciting words, phrases and ideas. Kids are sponges and soak up everything, especialy fun catchy phrases and words.

They also love images and creativety and a young age gets there imagination juices going which either stay and grow as they age or fade away with the business of the daily grind and society.:scream: :) :buttrock:
