Working on an animation for my reel. It's about halfway done, another 15 seconds to go until it's finished. Wanted to get some feedback.

Animation crits only please, and tear it to shreds. Note: Tho you can't tell, the character is only supposed to be like 5-6 inches tall. But likes to talk big and act mean. When it's completed there will be stuff in the background to better show his scale.

Modeled/Animated with Animation Master 10.5. Sound clip from Invader Zim (Mortos Der Soulstealer episode)

Thanks! Will post more/updates as they get done.

There are a couple of things that cought my attention right off the bat. First, the walk. His feet are sliding in the first one, and in the second he seems off balance. He is rotated too far foward and he's not catching his weight as he steps. The turn while walking also needs some tweaking.
I like the way this whole thing starts, but when he says "the Soul Stealer", the pose with his hand up could be a little different. In this case I'm just thinking in terms of silhouette. Because his arm is so short, having it behind the head just causes it to be overshadowed. Maybe you could have a more dramatic pose, where he is really stretched upward, his neck tilted back, and that arm totally visible.
That turn after "every thousand years" is a little fast, also. Try slowing it down.

That's it for now. Keep it up.

Thanks Joel, gonna work on some changes. Will probably also redo everything past "Chi-Koonga" .. not too happy with how that turned out.

I see a lot of popping everywhere, I think the walk really needs some work as said above. Overall I think you need to work on the smoothness of this anim, you can still have that snappy look, but I think I would tone it down a bit. There is something wierd happening with the left foot as he walks and shifts his weight, kinda like the foot is deforming in a wierd spot.

I agree joe that the pose he strikes on "soul stealer" should be a key pose with a silhouette that is fully intact. I think it needs to be defined exactly what tone and mood your shooting for with this guy. Do you want him to be someone that is trying to rule the world? or is it more of a joking thing that he is just spouting off.

The lip sync needs some definite work on most of the key phrases, I'd go through and try to match it better as this anim is very dialogue dependant. Because of this I think that whoever is watching your reel will be locked onto the phonemes of the character and how accurately your are syhching to dialogue.

A couple other things I noticed is that some of the movements are having limbs bending a little too much, some of them look uncomfortable and kind of yoga like. (mostly in the arms) I'm not sure about the little 180 he does when he pivots back to the other direction. This makes him seem really jovial and spirited, but that doesnt really fit the rule the world persona.

I think it'd be pretty neat to have him come down from above the shot flying with his little wings, and then he strikes the pose where all his limbs are fully extended to overemphasize how stoked he is. Then maybe he lands and walks a bit. Went a little overboard here, but I guess all criticism is needed. Cant wait to see your progress mate.

Good Luck,
Bull
