The is how i set up symmetry

Make half an object.
Freeze its Translation and scaling.
Put object under a model.
Instance the model.
Scale it at -1 on the desired symmetry direction (usually x).

Shouldn't the center verts be locked in the x axis. seems to always come apart on me.

If someone could suggest a better method please do so.

This is the method I prefer:

ICE solution:

Btw, if they do move away from the x axis, a simple solution may be to just select the points and add "0" to x SCALING. This will snap their x trans to the origin.
Not alot of people know this ;)

I use grahamef's method too.

The seam continuity is already considered with an adjustable tolerance When you are done, you just freeze the clone and continue. You can also move the clone away from the original half, so you can see what both parts look like together.
