Here is a screenshot I took while I was working on it. I laid down the lightest skin tone on their faces as an outline of their heads, marked the eyes and lips then shaded away with a pallete I made from the original photographs.

I think you're starting off on the wrong direction. To draw good figures, you must understand the figure itself, whether it's a face or the human body. I think it's very important to layout construction lines before you actually begin adding details to your pictures. once you got the construction lines set, the picture will automaticly become a better piece of artwork. With that done, it WILL look good whether the new work actually look like the reference or not.

What you're doing here is tracing? I suppose, because i did a comparison and the features of the two pictures were almost identical. That's not a real bad idea, but construction lines would be the way to go.

Im actually moving on to figure drawing right now. A friend just gave me some books to practice. Tracing...dont use that evil word :) My brain cant see the line just yet ...with practice it will...but I can see mass and shades of color though because of my experience with 3d. So I just drew a big tan block and took away mass to match her contour and shaded her features in. It took me about 20 hours to make it.... no tracing....I wanted it just right. The 2 images or kinda off...thats why mine doesnt look like her which kinda makes me upset that it didnt come out just like the picture. The girl in the picture is kinda asian...and mine doesnt even look a little asian. I do agree with you though...cause alot of people can draw from a reference photo and get really close....but not too many can draw that from scratch....which is where I want to be in atleast a year.

I kinda did "everything" backwards....cause I should have been drawing before I did 3d...now I feel like Im making up for lost time.
I hope to keep posting in the 2d part of this forum so you guys can guide me in the right direction cause I have no clue what Im doing. I think figure drawing is definately something I need to get a grasp of though.....it will improve my 3d, which is my main goal.
