View Full Version : sketch&toon and textures question
hi folks,
does anybody know if s&t works with textures (like labels on objects) ?
cheers

Yes. sketch & toon will only generate lines if you want it to. This way it won't affect the shading in the scene, so you can have a 'normal' scene with lines on only the objects you specify.
It is extremely versatile, you can, in a few clicks, set the whole scene so it is 'sketched' or you can be specific to each object and how it is rendered. You can choose to only render sketch lines on a materials alpha if that's what you require.

hi timC,
does this mean, that s&t does a "label" (picture on a object) not translate i a toon shaded one ?

Hi
I'm not sure I understand what you mean.
Put it another way.....
If you have a scene with a bottle in it, on the bottle you have modeled a label or have a label as a texture. You could use Sketch and Toon to draw lines around the bottle and label. You could leave the shading as a normal c4d render. Or you could use one of the sketch and toon shaders for a hatch look or cell shaded look. If you want a texture on an object to render S&T you can, if on another object you don't want it S&T you can render it as a normal c4d render. You could render a scene where one object looks real and uses HDRI, radiosity etc, another looks like a pencil sketch and another looks manga. It is well integrated with the c4d render pipeline.
Hope that answers your question.

hi timC,
OT: i'm staying in wiltshire, greetings (amesbury)
and now for something compl....
i'm doing a bottle with a label and the label was a tif made in PS.
if i render this image with s&t , can i handle the label the same way as for the bottle ?
are the result of the rendering a cartoon rendering of the label (remember it's a tif !)

Sketch & Toon has several parts. The primary part (IMHO) is the line rendering. This will create the outlines, creases etc in the scene. Also included are several shaders. Now if you chose to quantise the render then the TIFF would be quantised too, so it would get the toon / cell shaded look. If you just used the sketch lines then all the textures would render as normal (if that's what you wanted). The other shaders included (cell, art, hatch, spot) can all be used as normal channel shaders so you can mix your tif with the spot shader if you want a halftone effect or with the hatch shader if you wanted an etched look etc.

p.s. and hey Torquay is miles from Brighton.....LOL (I'd avoid Famlty Towers if I were you!)
