Hi there,
Must be me but i'm not sure i understand your problem; if you're about to constraint your cloth, there is a way to attach particular vertices of your cloth model to other objects in the scene / simulation, read about it in the reactor pdf.
But it seems you'd like your cloth to take on a specific color / material, and this you can do by simply assigning any defined material to your cloth object (prior or after simulation), like you'd do for any object in the scene.
Am i of any help or did i misunderstood you ?

I think he was talking bout the collar, but mistyped... :D
To attach a part of the cloth to a rigid body, just select some vertieces (you want to attach) with a mesh select modifier, and than apply a Reactor Attach to RB modifier. This will allow you to attach the selected vertieces to a Rigid body... :D
And by the way, really read the documentation, it explains the basics pretty well, and saves a lot of time - not figuring all out on your own!
Cheers!
