I'm trying to find a free alternative to Maya, but how on earth do I do a bevel on selected edges in Blender?

So simple operation in other apps, but in Blender all I find is the bevel modifier to bevel the whole object!? :banghead:

Use the bevel modifier with the limit method set to "Weight".

Then in edit mode using edge select, select the edges you want to bevel and set their weight under the properties panel (press the "n" key in 3d view to get the properties panel). Bevel weight is under "Transform". Hope that helps!

Thanks! That is kinda awkward, but it works!

Use the bevel addon http://airplanes3d.net/scripts-252_e.xml

Bevel will soon be just as functional and integrated as other apps in the next release (2.63) now that ngons are being implemented.

Looking forward to that...

2.63 is due in early-ish April and will see a big step forward for modelling in Blender. It might be worth grabbing a pre-release version from Graphicall (http://graphicall.org/) to evaluate Blender because it'll give you a much better idea what modelling in Blender will be like in the future. Just keep in mind that these builds will be Buggy McCrashalot! BMesh has only just been merged so there's a lot of cleaning up to do.

BMesh is Blenders new polygon modelling system and replaces the old EditMesh system. It's a much more modern design and should (finally!) bring Blender modelling tools up to scratch.
